Vintage Unbranded Two-Piece Buisine / Herald s Trumpet

Description

For your consideration is an unbranded Buisine also known as a "Herald's Trumpet." This medieval style brass instrument is a combination of copper, brass, and steel and were commonly used for military and ceremonial purposes.
It features a two-piece design with one side having an incorporated cup-like mouthpiece fixed on a slender stem that connects with another piece that tapers to a conical end for a bell. Unlike modern day trumpets, Buisines do not have a piston or rotary valve system to change it's pitches. This limits players to set notes given within a specific harmonic series. Rather, pitches are changed based on how the player's air is distributed through the mouthpiece.
Many of these types of instruments are not branded with a logo or markings making them difficult to identify and date. One thing is fairly certain, this particular one was made well after the Medieval period. Based on our research, we believe this to have been made as a functional instrument designed predominantly as a décor piece and we estimate it was made sometime after the 1900's.
It measures at 48" in length and has a 4 1/2" bell. It weighs in at just shy of 1lb.
The instrument has had a great deal of it's lacquer come off over the years but we have taken time to run the instrument through a chemical dip to clean the instrument and polish it the best we can. It also has a couple areas of light scratching and one area near the bell with a couple dents. None of these are structural issues, but are present (see photos).
