    Description

    This 'good for' token, dating to the early 1900s, was issued for the Rochester Trust Company in Rochester, New Hampshire.  The obverse has the name and city of the bank plus the words
    UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT DEPOSITORY
    .  The other side has
    the words
    THIS COIN IS WORTH 50¢ WHEN USED TO OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR ONE DOLLAR OR MORE SUBJECT TO OUR SAVINGS BANK RULES   USE AT ONCE OR HAND TO A FRIEND
    .  The mark of the manufacturer (Whitehead & Hoag) is along the lower rim.  This token was struck very well, with bold lettering.
    The diameter is
    approximately 26 mm (1"), and the composition appears to be brass.  It was manufactured with a gilt surface treatment, some of which remains.
    This item is in very fine condition, with light wear, toning, and soiling, and this token remains bright.
