    Description

This increasingly hard-to-find token (medal or coin) is a bicycle collectible dating to approximately 1940, when the Cleveland (Ohio)
    Plain Dealer
newspaper organized the 'Bicycle Light Brigade' to promote bicycle safety.  It sponsored various activities, including annual treks featuring large numbers of riders.  The obverse, with a planchet flaw, has a design that includes the pedals of a bicycle, the names of the newspaper and the organization, and the words
    SAFETY THRU SKILL
.  The reverse has the words
SKILL AND SPORTSMANSHIP MAKE GOOD LUCK
    .
    This token
measures approximately 30 mm (1-3/16") in diameter, and it is composed of an unidentified metal with a bronze-colored surface treatment.
This item is in very fine condition, with very light actual wear, signs of handling, toning, and some soiling, and it is very bright.
The illustrations in this listing are photos of the actual item being offered for sale, serving as part of the description.
NOTE:  The photos were taken through the windows of the holder, reducing their clarity.  The actual token has more detail, has a better bronze color, and is much brighter than in the photos.
